　　TheSydneyOperaHouseisoneofthemostfamousbuildingsintheworld.Itisconsideredtobeoneofthemostrecognizableimagesofthemodernworldalthoughthebuildinghasbeenopenforonlyabout30years.TheSydneyOperaHouseisasrepresentativeofAustraliaasthepyramidsareofEgypt.

　　6225squaremetersofglassand645kilometersofelectriccablewereusedtobuildtheOperaHouse.Itincludes1000rooms.Itis185meterslongand120meterswide.Thebuilding’sroofsectionsweighabout15tons.Thereare1milliontilesontheroof.Itprovidesguidedtoursto200000peopleeachyear.

　　ButdoyouknowtheOperaHousewitharoofwasdesignedbyafamousDanisharchitect,Utzon?Inthelate1950stheAustralianGovernmentestablishedanappealfundtofinancetheconstructionoftheSydneyOperaHouse,andconductedacompetitionforitsdesignwaschosen.Utzonspentafewyearsreworkingthedesignanditwas1961beforehehadsolvedtheproblemofhowtobuildthedistinguishingfeature—thesailsoftheroof.Theventureexperiencedcostblowouts.In1966thesituationreachedcrisispointandUtzonresignedfromtheproject.Thebuildingwasfinallycompetedbyothersin1973.SydneyOperaHousewasopenedbyQueenElizabethon20thOctober1973.
