ThecellwasdiscoveredbyRobertHookein1665.Thecelltheory,firstdevelopedin1839byMatthiasJakobSchleidenandTheodorSchwann,statesthatallorganismsarecomposedofoneormorecells,thatallcellscomefrompreexistingcells,thatvitalfunctionsofanorganismoccurwithincells,andthatallcellscontainthehereditaryinformationnecessaryforregulatingcellfunctionsandfortransmittinginformationtothenextgenerationofcells.[4]CellsemergedonEarthatleast3.5billionyearsago.[5][6][7]
