是不是SchoolsinDifferentCountriesIamanewimmigranttotheUnitedStates,andIspentabout19yearsinChina.Accordingtomyspecialidentity,Iexperiencedtwodifferenthighschools.ThehighschoolwhereIstudiedinChinawasnamedNo.3MiddleSchoolofFuzhouCity.Itisreallyabigschool,includingfourschoolbuildingsandalargeplayground.MycurrentschoolisManhattanComprehensiveNightandDayHighSchool.Thisschoolhasonlyonebuilding,butitalsoincludesalibrary,agymnasiumandsomelabs.Therearemanydifferencesbetweenthesetwoschools.Mycurrenthighschoolhasanightprogram,butmypreviousschooldoesn’t.Theschoolmatesinmycurrentschoolarefromdifferentcountries.Inthepreviousschool,however,itwouldhavebeendifficulttofindaschoolmatewhowasnotFujianese.Eachclassonlyincludes10-12peopleinmycurrentschool.Incontrast,mypreviousschoolhad58-60studentsinaclass.However,thefundamentaldifferencebetweenthetwoschoolsistheconceptofeducation.BecauseChina’sDepartmentofEducationcaresalotaboutbasiceducation,andallschoolsshouldfollowtheinstructionsofthedepartments,mostofthestudentshaveheavyloadsforcollegeentranceexamination.Incontrast,itismorerelaxedtostudyinanAmericanhighschool,becausethepressureoflearningisnotashighasinChina.Therefore,IwishthatChina’sDepartmentofEducationwouldlearnsomethingfromtheUnitedStates,andChinesestudents’burdenswouldberelieved.
