AhorseisborninDevoninthe1910's,andissoldatauctiontoafarmerbythenameofNorracott.Thehorseisbroughttothefarm,andisraisedandtrainedbythefarmer'sson,Albert(PlayedbynewcomerJeremyIrvine).Albertdevelopsastrongfriendshipwiththehorse,andnameshimJoey.ButatthestartofWorldWar1,theNorracottfamilyisforcedtoleaseJoeytothearmy,Albertpromisingthatthetwowillbetogetheragain.Fromthispoint,thestorybecomesfocusedonJoey'smiraculousjourneythroughthewar,aswellastheliveshetouches,includingEmily,ayoungFrenchgirlwholiveswithhercaringgrandfather.

　　Inallhonesty,thoughafewmightfindsomethingflawedaboutWarHorse,IwouldpersonallyhavetonitpicktofindsomethingItrulydidn'tlikeaboutit.That'sjustme,butthat'smystory,andI'mstickingtoit.

　　Astorylikethisone,withoutproperexecution,couldhaveeasilybeenawaterymess,butStevenSpielbergiswhereitallcomesdownto.Somemayfindthesentimentalitytobeabitforced,butIactuallythinkthatSpielbergturnsitintosomethingmuchmoregenuine.Hiskeensenseofhonestemotionisakeydrivingforcetothismovie.HeeasilybalancesbetweentouchingdevelopmenttoJoey'sstory,excitingwarscenes,aswellastheoccasionalhumoroussprinkles(Agaginvolvingwirecuttersisparticularlyhilarious).Thethirdactisespeciallypowerfulinhowitutilizesallofthesetraits(Ievennoticedquiteanumberofpeoplecryingduringtheendingatmyscreening).

　　AnotherthingI'vealwayspridedSpielbergon(insomefilmsmorethanothers)ishowheisabletoutilizesuchawellformedcast,acastwhichaccomplishesjustabouteverythingthatisneededofthem,evenifnoneofthemreallystandoutamongsteachother.

　　Andontopofallthatemotionandtalent,asalways,Spielberghasenlistedonlythetopnotchtechnicianstocrafthisfilm.TheeditingbythelegendaryMichaelKahnisrightonthemoney.ThemovieisbeautifullyshotbyDPlegendJanuszKaminski.ThecostumesbyJoannaJohnstonandproductiondesignbyRickCarter(thelatterof2009'sAvatar)arequitelovely,andthebeautiful,andsometimesepicscorebythegreatJohnWilliamsfitsthefilmperfectly.
