　　Someeyesrolledandtherewereafewlowgroans(嘟囔声)whenMs．Yateswasabouttospeak．Manystartedlookingattheirwatchesandcomingupwithexcusestobeanywhereinsteadofpreparingtolistentoalecturefromandoldwomanwhohadfewkindwordsforherstudentsandmadethemworkharderthanalltheotherteacherscombined．

　　ThenMs．Yatesstartedtospeak：

　　“Ican'ttellyouhowpleasedIamtobehere．Ihaven'tseenmanyofyousinceyourgraduationbutIhavefollowedyourcareersandenjoyedyourvictoriesaswellascryingforyourtragedies．Ihavealargecollectionofnewspaperphotographsofmystudents．AlthoughIhaven'tappearedinpersonIhaveattendedyourcollegegraduationsweddingsandeventhebirthyourchildreninmyimagination．”

　　Ms．Yatespausedandstartedcryingabit．Thenshecontinued：

　　“ItwasmybeliefthatifIpushedyouashardasIcouldsomeofyouwouldsucceedtopleasemeandotherswouldsucceedtoannoyme．RegardlessofourmotivesIcanseethatyouhaveallbeensuccessfulinyouchosenpath．”

　　“Thereisnogreatercomfortforaneducatorthantoseetheendresultofhisorheryearsofwork．YouhaveallbeenagreatsourceofpleasureandprideformeandIwantyoutoknowIloveyouallfromthebottomofmyheart．”

　　Therewasasilenceoverthecrowdforafewsecondsandthensomeonestartedclapping．Teeclappingturnedintocheeringthenintoadeafeningroar(呼喊)．LawyerstruckdriversbankersandmodelswererubbingtheireyesorcryingopenlywithnoshameallbecauseofthewordsfromalongforgottenEnglishteacherfromtheirhometown．
