TheUniversityofBedfordshireisbasedinLutonandBedford,thetwolargesttownsintheEnglishcountyofBedfordshire.TheuniversitywascreatedbythemergeroftheUniversityofLutonandtheBedfordcampusofDeMontfortUniversityon1August2006followingapprovalbythePrivyCouncil.TheUniversityofLutonpurchasedtheDeMontfortcampusinBedfordfor£15million.
TheBedfordCampusoftheUniversityhasbeenselectedasanofficialtrainingsitefortheLondon2012Olympics.Thecampusishopingtoattractamajornationalteamtotraintherefortheevent,andwillactasamainhubforothertrainingsitesintheBedfordarea.InJune2009itwasreportedthatover13nationalteamshaveexpressedaninterestinusingtheBedfordcampusfortheirolympicpreparations.
