JayChou(周杰伦,BornJan.18,1979)isapopularTaiwanesemusicianandsingerspecializinginR&Bandrap.AlsoknownastheKingofChinesemusic,heisknownforcombiningbothChineseandWesternmusicalstylestoproduceafreshsoundthatisquiteunlikewhatisproducedinmainstreamTaiwanesepop,andalsoforhisuniquelyricswhichtouchonvariousissues.Forexample,in爸我回来了"DadIamBack",domesticviolenceismentioned,in梯田"RiceFields",eco-awarenessismentioned,andin止战之殇"WoundsofWar",thedestructivenessofwarismentioned.Jay'smusicispopularthroughoutAsia,mostnotablyTaiwan.

　　Jaywasraisedbyhismotherwhowasateacherinahighschool.Showinginterestinmusic,hebeganlearningtoplaypianoattheageof3.Whilehewasathird-gradestudentinelementaryschool,hedevelopedaninterestincelloandhaddailycellolessons.Hismothertookhimtoconcertstodevelophistasteformusic.Whenhewas14,hisparentsgotdivorced;asaresult,hebecameveryindependent,quietandanti-social.JaymajoredinpianoandminoredincelloinDanJiangseniorhighschool.Thisprovidedhimagreatfoundationofclassicalmusic.

　　Jayfirstenteredthemusicindustrywhenheappearedinatalentshowasapianistwithhisfriend.Althoughtheirperformancewasn'texceptional,theproducersawtalentinthemusiccompositionwrittenbyJayanddecidedtogivehimachance.Hewasinitiallyhiredtowritemusicforothers,includingVivianHsuandJodyChiang.Althoughmanyofhissongsbecamepopular,mostpeoplewereunawarethattheywerehiscreations.

　　In2000,Jaywasgivenhischancetoproduceanalbumofhisown.HereleasedhisfirstalbumJay,which,muchtoeveryone'ssurprise,becameaninstanthit.ItgainedgreatattentioninTaiwanaswellastheinternationalHanChinesecommunity.WhenhissecondalbumFantasywasreleased,hewasalreadyamongoneofthetoppopstarsintheAsiancommunity.Hismostcriticallyandfinanciallysuccessfulalbumasofyetishisthird,EightDimensions.

　　Sinceenteringthemusicindustry,Chouhasbeenromanticallylinkedtoanarrayoffemalecelebrities,suchasJolinTsai,VivianHsu,andHebefromS.H.E.InFebruary2005,Chouwasphotographedwithentertainmenthost,PattyHou,shoppinginJapan.Afterasplurgeofmediaattacks,ChouallegedlyadmittedtobeinginarelationshipwithHou.However,fromMaytoJulyof2006,bothsidescoldlystated,"Ineversaidweweretogether."Thishascausedbothfansandthemediatospeculateaboutthepresentstatusofthecouple'srelationship
