MountHuang,alsoknownasHuangshan(Chinese:黄山;pinyin:Huángshān;literally"YellowMountain"[1]),isamountainrange[1]insouthernAnhuiprovinceineasternChina.Theareaiswellknownforitsscenery,sunsets,peculiarly-shapedgranitepeaks,HuangshanPinetrees,andviewsofthecloudsfromabove.MountHuangisafrequentsubjectoftraditionalChinesepaintingsandliterature,aswellasmodernphotography.Today,itisaUNESCOWorldHeritageSiteandoneofChina'smajortouristdestinations.Theareahasalsobeenalocationforscientificresearchbecauseofitsdiversityoffloraandwildlife;intheearlypartofthe20thcentury,thegeologyandvegetationofMountHuangwerethesubjectofmultiplestudiesbybothChineseandforeignscientists.[16]Themountainisstillasubjectofresearch;forexample,inthelate20thcenturyateamofresearchersusedtheareaforafieldstudyofTibetanMacaques,alocalspeciesofmonkey.[21]
