“Wehadtowaitallnightandallmorning,andthebusdidn’tshowup.”
ThestudentshadbeenraisingmoneysincelastsummertotraveltotheStrawberryFestivalinBuckhannon,WestVa.,theysaid.
“Inthesummertimewehadalotofcookouts,”saidSouthShorehighschoolsophomoreAndrewDuhaney,16,whoplaysthedrums.
USCoachwayspresidentofsalesEdwardTelmanyacknowledgedthebusbrokedown10minutesawayfromtheschool.Buthesaidhe’dbeenintouchwiththebandwhilehiscompanytriedtolocateanotherbus,evenfromanothercompany.
“Thisweekendisthebusiestdayoftheyear,”Telmanysaid.“Wedidourbesttofindalternatetransportation.Webycontractarenotevenresponsibletodothat,butwedidthattotryandhelpthem.”
BanddirectorKenyatteHughessaidhewasdisappointedthebuscompanycouldn’tcomethroughforhiskids.
“It’sjustaletdown,especiallywhenwetrytoteachthemthatyouwillprosperifyouworkhard,”hesaid.
