DGPStechniquegenerallyprovidesanaccuracyofbetterthan3
minthehorizontalcomponentattwicethedistancerootmean
squareerror12.DRMS2.Itis,however,importanttonotethatthe
effectivenessoftherelativepositioningtechniqueislargelydependent
onthedistancebetweenthetworeceivers.Ifthedistance
betweenthereceiversincreases,theresidualerrorswillbecome
larger,andhencethequalityofthepositioningresultsdegrades.
ThisisalimitationoftheDGPStechnique.Inaddition,therequirement
ofoperatingatleasttwoGPSreceiverssimultaneously
duringdataacquisitionfurthercomplicatesthefieldprocedure
makingtheDGPStechniquelessattractiveformostapplications.
Therefore,developingaGPStechniquethatrequirestheoperation
ofasingleGPSreceiver,whilestillprovidingaccuratepositioning
resultssuitableforGCPestablishmentofmediumandhigh
resolutionsatelliteimagery,istheobjectiveofthisresearch.
WiththeavailabilityofpreciseGPSorbitsandsatelliteclock
corrections,theprecisepointpositioning1PPP2techniquehasrecently
beenproposedbytheJetPropulsionLaboratory1JPL2

phasemeasurementsfrombothfrequencies1L1andL22,with
thepostmissioninformationintheestimationprocedure,itcan
produceveryhigh-precisionpositioningresults.Since1998JPL
hasbeenofferingtheautomatedGPSdataanalysisservicefor
processingsinglestat
