　　Thelovableandcharismaticpandaisoneofthemostpopularanimalsintheworld.Unfortunately,itisalsooneofthemostendangered.

　　FoundonlyinChina,oneoftheworld'smostpopulouscountries,thegiantpandaclingstosurvival,facinghabitatfragmentationandpoachingasitsgreatestthreats.Itisestimatedthatasfewas1,600pandasremaininthewildtoday.WWFworkstohelpgiantpandasinthewildthroughavarietyofprograms,includingscientificassessments,habitatconservationandoutreachtolocalgovernmentsandpeoplewithinthepanda'shomerange.

　　Pandashavebeenanintegralpartofourmissionformorethantwodecades.In1979,WWFwasthefirstinternationalorganizationtobeinvitedintoChinatoworkonpandaconservation.Tothisday,weremaintheprimaryinternationalconservationorganizationprotectingpandasinthewild,andwithyourhelpwecanensuretheirsurvival.

　　Prehistoricinappearanceandintriguinginbehavior,rhinosinthelate20thcenturyjoinedtheranksofthemostcriticallyendangeredanimalsintheworld.Rhinosareoneofthelargestfree-roamingmammalsleftontheplanetandtheyplayanimportantroleinecosystemsbyservingas"landscapearchitects"oftheirhabitat.Rhinosareseeddispersers,consumingvariousplantsandthen,asinadvertentgardeners,distributingtheirseedsthroughouttheirrange.Sinceitcantakearhinomorethanthreedaystodigestameal,seedscanbetransportedasignificantdistancebeforetheyaredepositedindroppings.Rhinodungalsoenhancessoilfertilityandnourishesthelandscape.

　　Buttheexistenceofthismajesticspeciesisincreasinglythreatened,dueprimarilytopoachingandhabitatloss.Astherhinoisoneofitsflagshipspecies,WWFisdirectinginnovativeconservationeffortsinAsiaandAfricathathavealreadyproducedresultsandpromiseamoresecurefuturefortherhino.

　　Whales,dolphinsandporpoisesbelongtothefamilyofmarinemammalsknownascetaceans.Unlikefish,cetaceansareair-breathing,warm-bloodedmammalsthatbearliveyoungandnursethemonmilk.Cetaceansplayanimportantroleinthelifeoftheocean,servingasflagshipsforthehealthandwell-beingofthewholemarineecosystem.

　　Completelyadaptedtolifeinthewater,whalesbreathethroughblowholesontopoftheirheads,whichallowsthemtotakeinairwithoutinterruptingswimming.Ofthegreatwhales,thedeep-divingspermwhaleisthechampionatholdingitsbreath.Thelongestrecordeddivebyaspermwhalelastedoveranhour,andthesewhalescandescendtodepthsofmorethanamile.Unlikefish,whichswishtheirtailsfromsidetoside,whalesswimbypumpingtheirtailsvertically,andusingtheirflipperstosteer.

　　Alongwithhunting,collisionswithships,andthedegradationoftheirhabitatduetopollution,thegreatestthreattowhales,dolphinsandporpoisesisentanglementinfishinggear,alsoknownasbycatch.Ifcurrenttrendscontinueunabated,severalcetaceanspeciesandmanypopulationswillbelostinthenextfewdecades.Withthesupportofitsmembersandinternationalconservationpartners,WWFisworkingtoensurethatwhales,dolphinsandporpoiseswillswiminourseasforgenerationstocome.
