MarkTwainwasbornin1835andhewasnotahealthybaby.Infact,hewasnotexpectedtolivethroughthefirstwinter.Butwithhismother’stendercare,hemanagedtosurvive.Asaboy,hecausedmuchtroubletohisparents.Heusedtoplayjokesonallhisfriendsandneighbors.Hedidn’tliketogotoschool,andheranawayfromhomefromtimetotime.HealwayswentinthedirectionofthenearbyMississippi.Hewasnearlydrowned(淹死)ninetimes.
Afterhisfather’sdeathin1847,MarkTwainbegantoworkforaprinter,whoonlyprovidedhimwithfoodandclothing.Then,heworkedasariver-boatpilotandlaterjoinedthearmy.Butshortlyafterthathebecameaminer,duringthisperiod,hestartedtowriteshortstories.Afterwardshebecameafull-timewriter.
In1870,MarkTwaingotmarried.IntheyearsthatfollowedhewrotemanybooksincludingTomSawyerin1876,andHuckleberryFinnin1884,whichmadehimfamous,andbroughthimagreatfortune（财富）.
Unfortunately,MarkTwaingotintodebtsinbadinvestments（投资）andhehadtowritelargenumbersofstoriestopaythesedebts.In1904,hiswifediedandthenthreeoftheirchildrenpassedaway.
Attheageof70,hisairwascompletelywhite.Hebroughtmanywhitesuitsandneckties.HeworenothingbutwhitefromheadtofootuntilhisdeathonApril21,1910.
