　　catv建立于1948年.许多住在远离电视台的人们不得不出钱搭起高高的天线一个公用天线往往是放置在一小山之上,一座山或在一高塔之上.

　　天线接收电视信号,然后传输这些信号到一个小得当地接收站.从那接收站,厚的电线,即电缆会延伸到到附近的用户家里.每一户使用电缆的人家要每月支付费用.

　　catv运行很好,不久人们就发现了它的新用途.小接收站可以将电视节目放进不在使用的空频道内.在那电缆沿途的人们就可以免费看地方新闻,天气报告,农场及学校新闻
