　　1）因为theappearanceofanewlife-savingmedicine就是make...possible中的...,但放在make和possible之间太长了,于是后置了.

　　如果后置的不是名词短语而是动词不定式短语或者一个句子,则用it代替；本题中的theappearanceofanewlife-savingmedicine是名词短语,所以不能选madeit.

　　2）that和this还有一个和中文很像的用法“那么/这么”,程度副词.
