TheTerracottaWarriorswerediscoveredbysomefarmers,locatedinXian,ShaanxiProvince,inMarch1974,whilediggingawell.Accordingtotheon-the-spotmeasurementafterexcavation,Vault1,anundergroundarchitecturalcomplex,is5metersdeep,230meterslongeasttowest,and62meterswide,northtosouth,coveringanareaofover14,000squaremeters.

　　Thepotteryarmy,compactinorganizationandmagnificentinbattlearrays,ispresentedonagrandscale.Thepotterywarriors,well-proportionedandexquisitelyshaped,haveeachadistinctiveindividualexpression:somebitingtheirlips,someglaringorgazing,somemeditatingwiththeirheadslowered,orwithtroubledlooks,othersappearingnaiveoranimated.Withthearmorbuckledon,thesoldierhashiscrossbowunderthearm,andarrowquiverslungovertheshoulder.Thegeneral,armoredandkeepingahandonthetipofswordhandle,maintainsanawesomebearing.Stronganddynamic,thehorserearsitshead,bristling.ThegrandeurandsuperbworkmanshipfullydemonstratethegreattalentandvisionoftheChinesenation.

　　In1980,anothertwobronzechariotswithridersandhorsesoflargersizewereunearthed.Thechariotseachwithfourbronzehorsesharnessedto,andadriver,havealuxuriouscanopy,piercedwindowsandasaddleandabridleofgoldandsilverornaments.Thechariotsandhorsesarecolorfulandreallytruetolife.
